Like Baselworld, the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) is an annual showcase of the latest creations from some of the world’s leading watch and jewellery houses. But unlike Baselworld, SIHH is an exclusive, by invitation only affair. Yes, it is a snobbish, clubby event, but it is a welcome change for anyone who has come from the hectic world of Basel. Most SIHH exhibitors are companies of the Richemont Group, except for Audemars Piguet, Roger Dubuis and Parmigiani. According to the SIHH organisation, more brands have expressed interest in joining SIHH 2008. Interestingly but not surprisingly, a potential candidate for 2008 entry is apparently Richard Mille. Of course, there are certain companies that choose to exhibit outside of SIHH, like F. P. Journe, which holds its presentation in its downtown Geneva boutique. And the Franck Muller Watchland Group holds its own fair in the outskirts of Geneva at Genthod. Even though only a handful of brands exhibit in Geneva - only 16 at SIHH compared to over 200 at Basel - there were a good number of highly complicated and significant watches presented in Geneva. That reflects the fact that all the companies that exhibit in Geneva are high end, luxury houses. This report aims to most of the major names present in Geneva, including thpse independent of SIHH.
