Blue watches are beautiful. Blue watches are popular. Ulysse Nardin realized this early, and consequently brought out the San Marco Chronometer, adorned with a stunningly shining blue enamel dial. It became the brand's long-time bestseller, and is still available.

It was consequently only a matter of time, until the theme "blue" was developed further, and more watches with blue dials were presented: the Minute Repeater "Forgerons" and the Hourstriker with blue enamel dials in the same technique as the San Marco Chronometer, the Planetarium with blue galvanized planet rings, the stunning Marine Perpetual with a blue lacquer dial, and finally the colour was even expanded onto the movement, when UN unveiled the famous "Blue Max".

Following the "Blue Max's" huge success, Ulysse Nardin now surprises us with a wonderful novelty, that was not even shown at this year's Basel show:

From a technical point of view, this new model combines the case of the Maxi Marine Chronometer with the dial style of the Marine Diver, easily discernible by its massive hands and hourmarkers. As on its predecessor, the "Blue Max", the luminous mass is bright white, resulting in a sharp and stunning contrast with the dark blue dial. At night, however, the specially treated markers will glow in a bright blueish tint.

What distinguishes the new Blue Wave mostly from the Blue Max, however, is its dial structure. Instead of the latter's smooth metallic dial surface, the UN designers decided to let the dial reflect the watch's name - or vice versa? Anyway, the result is as marvelous as the name "Blue Wave" suggests: An embossed wave-pattern with metallic shine adornes the dial. Differing from wave structures that have been seen on dials of other brands' watches, UN gave them an irregular outline, which further adds to the spectacular appearance.

Once again the movement complements the watch's overall colour style by featuring the marvelous blue galvanization known from the "Blue Max". There is one change, however: While the stainless steel "Wave" has the blue oscillating rotor, the pink gold version is equipped with a rotor made of 22k pink gold, which rotates above the deep blue background of the movement's bridges.

Straps are offered as blue rubber with titanium link and folding clasp, or a blue alligator strap. Note that due to the unique attachment points to the case, only genuine UN straps can be used.

Unfortunately, the "Blue Wave" is a limited edition: While the pink gold version is produced in 350 pieces, the stainless steel edition will comprises 1846 pieces, honouring the year when the Ulysse Nardin company was founded.
